The above supplementary votes are submitted to provide funds for the carrying 'out of the policy as regards War Expenditure announced in the statement by the Honourable Financial Secretary in Legislative Council on the 14th March, 1940.
In view of the sub-division of the requirements which has now been made, as above, no expenditure will be charged to the block vote of $1,000,000 under Head 6E, Special War Expenditure, and savings to that amount will accordingly be available to meet a portion of the above votes under the new Head 32. Savings to the extent of $336,496 under Head 6A, Volunteer Defence Corps, and $19,149 under Head 6B, Hong Kong Naval Volunteer Force, will also be available for the same purpose. Total savings $1,355,645.
